Have you tried cacao and tahini together?
I made this recipe to satisfy my craving for a chocolate milkshake the other day, but little did I know that I’d want this creamy cacao tahini smoothie even more!
The flavor combination of chocolate and tahini are pretty perfect together. It reminds me of my childhood when I first discovered the magic of chocolate halvah bars in our neighborhood market. Growing up in Los Angeles, all sorts of different cultural foods are available, like the chocolate halvah strategically placed next to the deli counter.
If you love tahini, this rich creamy smoothie is your thing.
This smoothie has lots of healthy whole food ingredients in it:
raw almond butter
This plant-based vegan smoothie is naturally sweetened with dates, but you can add a frozen banana (optional) if you want it extra creamy. I use frozen cauliflower instead because I don’t eat bananas anymore (too much sugar) but if you want to make it more milkshake like, the frozen banana will definitely do the trick.
To keep this low sugar, leave out the dates and banana, and add monkfruit sweetener instead. You’ll still get the creamy texture from the tahini and almond butter.
Cacao Tahini Smoothie
2 cups almond milk (homemade is best // or store bought)
3 pitted dates
2 tbsp tahini
1 tbsp raw almond butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp raw cacao powder
*1 frozen banana // or // 1 piece frozen cauliflower
*sweeten with monkfruit sweetener (optional)
*top with cacao nibs
Suggestion: Essential Living Foods brand has a great cacao smoothie mix Coco Gogo Chocolate Vitality Boost. It has cacao powder , coconut sugar, lucuma, mesquite, guarana, vanilla, and Himalayan sea salt.
Blend all smoothie ingredients until creamy smooth. Adjust taste by adding more of any ingredient you like.
